Finding the Boat that's Right for You
1. Think about what you want to do with your boat. Whether it's fishing, watersports, local or long-distance cruising - there's a boat that will make it all happen for you. Narrow down your choice to a specific category or two.
2. Go to a boat show, stroll around a marina, go boating with friends… and find out more about the choices and models that will meet your needs. Meet and chat with boat dealers at the boat show.
3. Find local dealers who sell the brands you've chosen. Visit the dealer; ask for a demo ride. Select the dealer who goes the extra mile, who makes it clear that he'll be with you after the sale, too. Buy the best boat/dealer combination. If you are undecided between two models or brands, buy the boat from the dealer who gives you a sense of confidence.
4. Take a boaters education course. Complete the course before your boat is launched. Have family members take the course, too - everyone will have more fun if they are confident of their abilities as "smart boaters."
